The puzzle fast becoming called “Jamestown Softball” stays unsolved for Presentation College, as the Saints were captured from the Jimmies throughout the North Star Athletic Association Crossover Tournament held in the PC Winter Dome Friday.
Jamestown took matches 8-5 and 3-0 and have won four-straight against the Saints.
Ashlyn O’Keefe got the start for Presentation in game and was hit fairly hard. She went three innings allowing six runs on nine hits like a pair of home runs.
“Jamestown will hit quicker pitching, but if you have a house field advantage, I believe you will need to go with your master in game one,” said Presentation head coach Mari Cerenio-Jordan. “We understood (Jamestown) might tire her out a bit and they did”
The Saints trailed 8-2 going to the bottom of the seventh inning, but managed to to plate three runs. Jamestown’s Jasmine Pipella would come on in relief and also retire the final two batters.
“We did find a way, albeit at the seventh inning in which we gave them a bit of scare,” Cerenio-Jordan explained. “Regrettably, that is too late and we need to discover that spark sooner.”
Megan Mendonca got the start for the Saints in game two, and allowed three runs on five hits. O’Keefe would return to the circle at the fourth and toss three shut-out innings striking out three along the way.
“We let Meg complete out game one and she retained them off-balance, so we figured let us keep with what is working and gave the start in game two,” Cerenio-Jordan explained. “She also gave us all she could, then we brought in Ashlyn, that throws more difficult and Jamestown had some difficulty in adjusting”
The Saints offense, however, had an equally tough time, since it managed just four strikes Pipella and Kat Miska.
“We only tried to induce a few of our at-bats,” Cerenio-Jordan explained. “Jamestown has some junky pitching, and they prefer to work the ball up a good deal. We simply didn’t stay patient and kind of took the lure some pitches once we should not have.”
